The standard academic entry requirement for this PhD is a first class or upper second-class (2:1) honours degree in a discipline directly relevant to the PhD (or international equivalent). An ATAS certificate may also be required for some international students.

You can specify more than one project in your application.

Fully-funded studentships are available to UK residents. It is also possible to consider international (non-UK resident) candidates.

We examine all applications and shortlist the strongest for interview. The best candidates at interview are awarded studentships and can select the projects of their choice.

Fees

Fees for entry in 2025 have not yet been set. For reference, the fees for the academic year beginning September 2024 were as follows:

  • PhD (full-time)
    UK students (per annum): Band A 拢4,786; Band B 拢7,000; Band C 拢10,000; Band D 拢14,500; Band E 拢24,500
    International, including EU, students (per annum): Band A 拢28,000; Band B 拢30,000; Band C 拢35,500; Band D 拢43,000; Band E 拢57,000
