Other eligibility criteria

To be considered suitable for the joint scholarship, you must be a citizen and permanent resident of the People's Republic of China at the time of application. Overseas Chinese students may be eligible for application subject to CSC policy at the time.

You must also:

  • return to China upon completion of your studies/research;
  • You must meet the minimum academic requirements for your preferred PhD programme;
  • hold an unconditional offer from 69´«Ã½, including meeting the English language requirements;
  • Demonstrate a history of research engagement, which may include contributions to publications/articles, promoting your research to a wider audience, prizes for research or project work;

Application procedure

Stage 1: You must submit your online programme application by 13 January 2025.

Section 9 of the application asks for your funding intentions. Please add a funding source, and populate the fields as below:

  • Type of Funding: Uni of 69´«Ã½Scheme
  • Awarding Body (free text): CSC-UoM Joint Scholarship
  • Status of Funding: Intend to Apply

Your application must include all necessary supporting documents. If your application does not state your funding intention, you will not be considered.

Stage 2: You must hold an unconditional offer and work with your supervisor to complete the nomination form by 14 February 2025. Otherwise, you will not be included in the competition.

Stage 3: If nominated, you must also apply to CSC for funding by completing an  .

Your full online application must include:

  • A PhD research proposal
  • A copy of your Bachelor's and Master's academic transcript and certificate. If your Master's degree is pending, please provide an interim transcript.
  • An up-to-date academic CV summarising your academic record, employment history, publications and highlighting experience demonstrating your research potential.
  • The names of two academic referees, including one from your most recent institution. Your referees will be contacted directly via the Referee Portal following the submission of your application form.
  • A certificate or evidence demonstrating your English language ability and proficiency.

If nominated, you should submit a CSC funding application directly to CSC between 10-31 March 2025.

Decision date

We expect to communicate the outcome to 2025 nominees in June 2025.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide feedback on individual applications, as outcomes are determined by several panels across the faculty.

Deferral information

Offers of funding are not deferrable. If you cannot start your programme by the date mentioned in your studentship offer letter, the award will be withdrawn. You are permitted to re-apply in future.
